Many have asked, how do we restore our pianos locally here in Malaysia?
Well, restoring a used piano is not only a very tedious and time-consuming process but requires well-trained and experienced piano technicians to work on it too.
With over 30 years of experiences in the industry, we at Pusat Muzik LKS Setapak Sdn Bhd are now able to produce at a daily rate of up to 8 units of fully-restored pianos.
All the used pianos are handpicked and imported by batches directly from Japan. These yet-to-restored pianos are safely stored at the large warehouse before sending them to our factory.
To simplified our complex restoration process, we summarised it into 7 main stages.
Stage 1: Breaking Down
Mainly dismantling and labelling of piano parts (panels, tops, key covers, actions, keyboards, etc), cover-up and protect all important areas of the piano (sound board, iron frame, key-frames, etc).
Stage 2: Bodywork
Most of the work are on patching uneven surface and pores, spraying (base colour is usually black), sanding (to achieve smoothness) and ended with additional finishing coat. Total – 4 layers
Stage 3: Polish
Polishing all cabinetry surfaces, covers and internal metal parts like iron frame, pins, strings, pedals, etc.
Stage 4: Action Overhaul
Removing and replacing worn and torn parts, re-assembling, aligning and regulating all the action components like centre pins, hammers, keys, dampers, bridle straps, adjusting the key-frames and keyboards. Voicing of the hammerheads will be done in this stage as well.
Stage 5: Tuning & Regulation
Each piano will be re-tuned to its standard concert pitch (A440) and it is ready to be displayed at the showroom for sale. At this stage, all pianos are about 90% completely restored.
Stage 6: Quality Control (QC)
Upon receiving orders, the sold pianos will undergo surface re-polishing and followed by action, keys and pedals re-testing to ensure all the necessary components are 100% functional, properly aligned with excellent touch and sounded perfectly.
Stage 7: Piano Delivery
Only after the above stages are 100% completed, these reconditioned pianos are ready to be packed and delivered to the designated destinations throughout Malaysia as well as overseas countries.
